CHARACTER ALIGNMENT
Race by Character Alignment
In Sovereign’s Rest, characters are grouped by alignment rather than by race. This is determined by race’s established lore from which that race originates. When choosing what race you wish to play consider their character’s moral alignment, as it will determine which region they reside in and the faction they become a part of.
Characters are not permitted to ignore the natural alignment of their race simply to join the opposite faction. For example, a demon seeking citizenship within Luminia Glade would not be accepted, just as a strongly light-aligned race would not naturally belong within the Shadow Realm.

The Docks
The Docks in Sovereign’s Rest serve as the neutral settlement for characters who do not fully align with either the Light of Luminia Glade or the Shadow of the Shadow Realm. This area is home to those who walk a more independent path, including characters who choose to act outside their race’s traditional alignment. The Docks are more diverse and unpredictable than the aligned regions, reflecting a balance of all races and beliefs without favoring harmony or dominance from either side.
Playing Against Your Character's Natural Alignment
Players who prefer to play their character outside of their race’s traditional alignment may instead choose to live within the Docks, the island’s more neutral settlement. The Docks welcome those who do not fully align themselves with either side. However, life within the neutral territories comes with stricter rules and fewer protections.
Races that naturally feed upon, hunt, or prey upon others will not be permitted to freely endanger or dominate the largely human population of the Docks. Characters living there will be expected to follow strict regulations regarding feeding, hunting, and violent behavior. Because of these restrictions, obtaining food, resources, or other necessities may be far more difficult than it would be within the race’s naturally aligned region.
This should also be considered if your partner is playing the opposite alignment as yourself, their character will not be considered a member of that region that you are aligned with simply because they are your partner.
Light vs Dark
The separation between Light and Dark races exists to encourage IC conflict, competition, and story-driven roleplay between the different factions. Sovereign’s Rest is intentionally built around these tensions in order to create ongoing plots and interactions among players. These core concepts will not change, so players should keep this in mind when designing their characters and choosing alignments.
