the story of magic and Roles in Soveriegn's rest

Dramatic Evening Sky

the story

As the Overlord continued building their new home upon Sovereign’s Rest, Morrigan buried herself within ancient books and forbidden knowledge. She knew her brother would eventually require more power than she alone could provide. Through years of study, she learned how to open portals to other worlds, though it was the Overlord who possessed the strength required to channel enough energy to force them open.

It was Morrigan's Gift of Sight that allowed her to search beyond the veil and locate the beings her brother desired to shape his world. At the Overlord's request, she called forth creatures of both light and dark nature. She chose humans, beasts, warriors, scholars, and supernatural races alike. Those summoned would become the foundation needed to grow, defend, and build the island.

The connection between brother and sister was unlike any other. The bond they shared allowed the Overlord to simply think of what he required, and Morrigan would seek it across worlds and timelines, drawing the chosen beings toward Sovereign's Rest.

Over time, Morrigan discovered that certain races, especially those gifted with supernatural abilities, could help replace the energy constantly drained from her by her brother's magic. On their home world, where countless gifted women existed within noble bloodlines, such burdens had never been difficult to bear. But upon Sovereign's Rest, the strain upon Morrigan grew heavier with every passing month.

In the early days of the island, Morrigan and the Overlord encountered some of the first magic users brought through the portals. Fascinated by them, Morrigan studied their customs, rituals, and understanding of the arcane. Through them, she learned of covens, herbal remedies, potion crafting, and ancient magical traditions from countless different worlds.

discovering the problem with Magic

Morrigan did note that even the more experienced  Magic Users struggled to tap into the magic of the island. The magic of the island differed greatly from the energies of their original worlds. Spells became unstable, powers weakened, and many arrivals found themselves unable to properly channel their gifts at all. For some it the spells backfired so badly, it ended their lives.

A few magic users were able to offer help and worked with Morrigan to figure out how to help the new magic users. They located the point in the Luminia Glade, in which the source of the magic on the island was the easiest to tap into. Through a ceremony, the new user learned how to tap in due to a special potion that only Morrigan knew how to make. The new members are given choice to join the coven or remain on their own as a solo witch.

The Hollowed Eye Coven was formed. Those who joined grew in power and status on the island. They were given protection and important jobs around the island that made them integral to all races on the island. They gained the ear of those the Overlord put in charge and could push their own influence when needed. As time went on, Morrigan retreated more and more into her books. She appointed those she trusted most to lead the coven.

The bond between Coven members was strong, and even newly joined members quickly found a place to call home. Their differences in race and origin made it easier for them to thrive within the regions best suited to their own nature and abilities. Though they came from countless worlds and timelines, the Coven united them beneath a single purpose: the pursuit, protection, and preservation of magic upon Sovereign's Rest. Over time, the Hollowed Eye Coven became more than a gathering of magic users. It became a family, a source of power and knowledge whose influence would shape the island.

Morrigan would retreat into solitude, only appearing when she was truly needed. The reason for her isolation remained unknown, spoken of only in whispers throughout the island. Only a handful of people had ever truly seen her, and even they shared little of what they knew. On rare occasions, Morrigan would appear once more, often without warning, as though she had never truly left at all.
