the Magister's Coven

Dramatic Evening Sky

There is only one coven on Sovereign’s Rest open to all magic users: the Magister's Circle.

It is through this coven that magic users who arrive on the island are able to fully access and channel their abilities. In many ways, the coven stands as its own faction with traditions and secrets known only to its members. Every region seeks the aid of the Morveth and relies upon the coven whenever magical knowledge, guidance, or specialized support is needed.

Once initiated into the Circle, a member becomes known as a Morveth.

The Magister's Coven ultimately serves the island as a whole, for purposes both benevolent… and, at times, less so.

  • Diviners seek knowledge.

  • Spiritualists commune with souls.

  • Healers preserve life.

  • Hexers influence hearts and minds.

  • Wardens protect, contain, and control.

While advanced members may eventually learn techniques from other disciplines, these five paths form the foundation of the Magisters' Coven and ensure every magic user serves a distinct role within Sovereign's Rest.

to join or not to join

At the bottom of this page there is a section that will start you off on your magical journey in Sovereign's Rest. All Magic users start off the same way. The reason for this is based on lore and to ensure that all Magic Users understand how magic works in Sovereign's Rest.

After completing this in-character training, you will be given the option to join the Magister's Circle

Should you choose to join, you will receive a mark signifying your place within the coven.

We want to encourage all Magic Users to be part of the Coven so therefore their ability in Magic is 50% more than the solo Magic User.  This is for two reasons in becoming a member they are working with other magic users meaning they will get a natural boost in power for working with others. Secondly they will have access to the Magical Archive, help in finding magical jobs. access to spells, potions and charms that only those that are members of the Coven will have access too.

THE SOLO WITCH
If you choose not to join the coven, you will be given a magical potion to help stabilize your power. However, it must be recharged each month by returning to the Veiled Sovereign. As a magic user on your own your magic will not be as strong as those in the coven members. Solo witches will be left on their own to find work and roleplay to use their magical skills.

A solo witch will not have access to the magical archive, certain ingredients or invited to partcipate in group magic spells.

If you decide not to join in the beginning you will have a chance to join at a later time.

Becoming a Morveth

a magic circles .jpg

Members of the Magister's  Coven are known as The Morveth.

The Morveth fall under the leadership of the Veiled Sovereign but are still alllowed to choose who they help or not help on the island. To serve the Overlord, the Veiled Sovereign dispatches the Morveth throughout the island using their magic to assist others where needed. Some may find themselves working within the village infirmary, apothecary, or herbal shops, while others are sent out to work directly with the Regents.

As this is the only Coven on the island the members of the Morveth are respected and their skills and powers often sought after. The Morveth can choose to help others with charms. spells and potions and choose not to help at all.

Players remain members of their alignment region, though loyalty to the Coven comes before loyalty to the region itself. The Morveth are widely sought after for the services and aid they provide across Sovereign’s Rest and are generally regarded with high respect because of their value to the island. However, that reputation must be maintained through adequate roleplay.

Morveth members may still be held accountable for actions taken against the Regents, the Veiled Sovereign, Morrigan, or the Overlord.

Many of the Morveth originate from human worlds and are humans with magical capabilities. However, members of other races such as Demons, Elves, and Angels, occasionally appear within the Coven as well. Unlike others of their race, these individuals no longer possess their primal or cognitive abilities, relying solely on magic instead.

Jobs for the Morveth are assigned by the Veiled Sovereign and are matched to each member’s skills and abilities as closely as possible. These duties may take the Morveth throughout every region of Sovereign’s Rest, granting them safe passage when they are called to serve a region.

OOC: When jobs are assigned to the Morveth, OOC preferences are taken into consideration whenever possible. Duties are rotated to give different players the opportunity to work in various locations throughout the island. Players may request placement in a specific region, though approval depends on availability at the time.

PERKS OF BEING A COVEN MEMBER

Based on your skills, you will be guided toward roles where your magic is useful. For example, the High Council in the Luminae Glade may require a divinator to help locate rare plants, and your character may be assigned to assist them. (this is OOC and IC. Players get a choice based on their power set).

If you are not sent on a special assignment,  you will be assigned work at one of the magic user locations/jobs that are throughout the island (players do get a chance to choose where they want to work ooc)

The Veiled Sovereign will call coven meetings to perform large-scale spells.

Morveth get access to the magical archive and the Hollowed Eye Circle itself

Morveth, get the opportunity to earn Favored status.
Due to their shared magic, Morveth possess three additional abilities:

Empathy  – This ability is only attached to other Morveth Members. Morveth Members share an emotional link due to the ritual in which you join the coven.  A Morveth can concentrate and feel strong emotions if another member is feeling them.

Limit: You only feel the emotion. You may experience feel the Morveth you are concentrating on is afraid, but why they are afraid you will not know.

The Green Thumb– The Morveth can heal a dying plant, trigger a seed to take root and grow faster, and make a fruit or vegetable taste better or worse by a simple touch.

Limit: This is not for a large group of plants, but more for solo or small numbers at a type.  For the seedling to grow, it still nees to be planted and taken care of. For the taste of veggies or fruits, it has to be touched before it is picked.

Whisper on the Wind – By speaking a few words, you can cast a spell that carries your voice on the wind to an intended target.

Limit: Five-word maximum per message. After use, you must wait two posts before using this ability again. Others nearby can hear you casting the spell.

Will get the chance to learn more than one ability over time.
Things to note:

The Morveth do not have direct Access to the Overlord, however, the Veiled Sovereign does, he/she may help you get direct access to the Overlord and Regents faster than you trying to get an audience on your own

Being a Morveth can lead to you to having jobs directly under the Regents and access to some magical items that only Morveth can access.
